No one in his right mind would claim that the members of Dysrhythmia aren't some of the most talented musicians in the metal world, but an overshadowing problem has been that the band's caustic mix of tech-metal and progressive rock isn't accessible to the casual listener. Enter Psychic Maps, arguably the band's tamest work to date. "Tame" is used in relative terms here; instead of blowing the audience's mind open 100% of the time, Dysrhythmia has scaled back to 80% and put more focus on things like melody, transitions, and other pleasantries which might lend to a full listening experience. Otherwise, the trio miraculously gels into a cohesive unit that plows through the record like clockwork, all the while putting most other bands to shame.
