3” albums are like baseball cards; they’re fun to collect, fun to display on your mantle, and a lesson in shrewd business trading skills. 3” albums that are limited edition and have handmade packaging are like Nolan Ryan rookie cards; they have that little bit of extra allure. However, like baseball cards, 3” albums seem a little fleeting, short, unfulfilling and thereby fueling the addiction to purchase more of them.

Kning Disk is the label behind a good number of well packaged, content-rich 3” splits, and the combination of Ass and Rickard Jäverling are an excellent compliment to each other on this one. Ass starts No Love Lost, David with a wonderful, somber, and richly orchestrated song where a trumpet lopes through the melody and accordion rounds out the background. Rickard Jäverling ends this two-song trip with a more folksy, ambient sound incorporating, among other things, guitar, piano and bells. Both tracks sound like they could be from one artist because they work so well together, but then the split is over, so this theory never has chance to develop further.

This is a really nice 3”, artwork included, but after two songs I sure wish it were at least an EP. As far as marketing goes, No Love Lost, David is brilliant, as it leaves you wanting more and therefore more likely to seek out one or both of these artists and make a few more purchases. This is a really delightful (if short) album that would make an excellent addition to any collection, and if you keep it on repeat, it sounds like a much longer release.
