With their latest release, The World is a Dangerous and Uncertain Place, Day In, Day Out take their music to a whole new level. Previously a production solely based on the acoustic guitar, Day In, Day Out have broadened their horizons to include piano, electric guitar, and also minor electronics. These new additions take the music from the norm to something rather endearing.

The EP is a short endeavor, which serves more as an appetizer of things to come than a full entré. Opener “Look, (...)”  doesn't show off or overexert itself, instead it features a slowly lingering piano riff, which is accented by an electronic guitar, pseudo bell chimes, and a few simple, deep beats. “The Energy of Slaves” begins with a short audio dialog, then quickly changes into something that Day In, Day Out does very well: a beautiful five minute passage featuring acoustic guitars which complement one another in creating a rather relaxing and serene mood. “I Want Faithfulness” is my personal favorite from the album; a sample of a female writer giving a speech to a crowd about her personal experiences is supported by electro-acoustic guitar and a solemn piano. I could go on rambling about this track, but I would not be able to give it the justice it deserves. It's one of those tracks that is so simple yet still capable of reaching the listener on a deeper level. “Myth” is a short snippet of an audio track about some really realistic guy speaking about his views on love, making one contemplate everything they think they know about the subject.

Day In, Day Out have created a very solid EP, one which very easily could become a personal favorite for electroacoustic enthusiasts. Through five simple tracks, the listener gets a view of what power the band has with such confident utilization or such simple instruments. Everyone should keep their eyes peeled for the next full length from Day In, Day Out, because when it's released, I expect everyone to be blown away.
